Elected City Commissioners have a direct say in who is hired, their contract terms, salary adjustments, and firing. Local elections are important. Keeping elected officials accountable is essential.

An article from December 2021, titled “Grand Rapids leaders move to increase salary cap after manager, attorney hit maximum pay,” covers how the City Manager and City Attorney moved to increase their salary cap. When these salary increases were voted on, the City Manager and City Attorney actively worked to stop budget reallocation efforts led by the community and supported by City Commissioners.

It is time for City Manager Washington and City Attorney Hitchcock to listen to the will of the people they're employed to represent and start "finding" the funds necessary to properly support the community and not just their bank accounts.
