To be equity-minded is to care about fairness for all. Equality, though, is a popular strategy used to talk about creating fair outcomes. However, whereas equality is treating everyone the same, equity is giving everyone what they need to be successful.
Though equality aims to promote fairness, it can only work if everyone starts from the same place and needs the same help.
Historically, we know that isn't our country's reality. Even now, your race, sexual orientation, and zip code influence things like how healthy you care, your life expectancy, your educational outcomes, salary, quality of life, and more.
Equity PAC strategically organizes with equity in mind. We recognize the systematic influences that have led to mass inequity, and believe we can only create smart policy that benefits all citizens when we are aware of and consider what every community needs.
Key Issue Areas
In addition to supporting equity-minded candidate and ballot initiatives, Equity PAC decided to work on a number of key equity issues.
After the 2016 election, we conducted two community meetings, a survey, and an environmental landscape review to determine priority areas. We concluded that diversification of government, policing reform, immigration justice, affordable housing, voter education, and support of local, state, and national organizations to be our priorities.
