Equity PAC strongly endorses the Voters Not Politicians and Proposal 2 for an Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. We encourage all to vote “yes” on this ballot proposal in November. Furthermore, Equity PAC leadership sees this as the priority equity issue on the ballot.
“Our current gerrymandered districting process can lead to inattentive political leaders and the weakening of our voices and democracy. We must have more transparent and impartial redistricting process across the state if we are ever to see more equitable outcomes” says Kelsey Perdue of Equity PAC.
According to VNP, “the majority party in power in Michigan is able to turn 50% of the vote into almost 70% of the elected positions. There is an imbalance between the overall preferences of Michigan’s voters and their representation in government and both parties take advantage when they get the chance.”
If the political process is to be fair and equitable, then the arena where it takes place must be fair. We strongly encourage all who want a fair and equitable Michigan to vote “yes” for Proposal 2. For more information on Proposal 2 read here.
Equity PAC will also be holding a canvassing event and gathering in support of Voters Not Politicians on October 27 at 10am. Our goal is to see 20 volunteers commit to canvass key neighborhoods to get the word out about the importance of this proposal. We will meet at LINC UP on Madison and Hall for training at 10:00am, canvassing starting at 10:30am and then an after canvassing event for networking and lunch starting at 12:30pm at Forty Acres on Wealthy Ave. If you plan to attend please RSVP here.
Equity PAC is a Michigan-based political action committee. Our mission is to continually increase the number of equity-minded officials, policies and practices in Michigan. To do this, we mobilize time and money to support equity-minded candidates and ballot initiatives, provide education and advocacy of equity-focused policies, and encourage direct citizen action to address a number of equity issues.
